Traffic in Jodhpur is set for a major shake-up this evening, with police enforcing route diversions from 5 PM today, September 6, ahead of a proposed VVIP visit to the city. The changes will be felt most sharply around Jalori Gate crossing, the inner city area, Ghantaghar crossing and Nai Sadak crossing, where regular vehicle movement will be restricted for the duration of the visit. Anyone planning to travel through these areas this evening has been advised to check the revised routes before stepping out, to avoid getting stuck in traffic.
Choupasni Road to Pawta: the new route
Vehicles heading from Choupasni Road towards Pawta will first need to travel via 5th Road, Sardarpura and 12th Road to reach Targhar. From there, the route continues through JDA Circle, Bhaskar Chauraha and Bhati Chauraha before joining Tarachand Circle, which leads on to Pawta. The path is somewhat longer, but police say it is the safest way to avoid getting caught in jams during the diversion.
Pawta to Choupasni Road: the return path
Motorists travelling the opposite way, from Pawta back towards Choupasni Road, will need to cross Tarachand Circle, Circuit House and Bhatia Chauraha first. The route then passes through VC Circle, PWD Chauraha and JDA Circle before reaching Bhairuji Chauraha and the DRM khatarnak pulia. Police have already made this full route public so that regular commuters can plan ahead.
Movement between the inner city and Pawta
For those travelling between the inner city and Pawta in either direction, the approved path runs through Manak Chowk, the Ghantaghar police post and Panna Niwas, continuing on via Hathiram ka Oda, Merhi Gate and Mirdha Circle to reach the destination. Separately, people heading from the inner city towards Pratap Nagar, Akhaliya, Choupasni Road and Pal Road will be diverted through Navchowkiya and Bakra Mandi up to Vidyashala Mod, and from there via Sursagar towards Kailana Chauraha.
No-entry zone between Jalori Gate and Ghantaghar
Because of the VVIP security arrangement, the entire stretch between Jalori Gate and Ghantaghar will be closed to ordinary vehicles. This covers the path running from Balwari and Kumhariyon ka Kuan through Aada Bazaar, and onward via Punglapada and City Police Tiraha up to Kandoi Bazaar and Ghantaghar. Police have indicated that this restriction will remain in force only for the period the VVIP movement is underway.
Emergency vehicles exempted, police appeal for cooperation
Ambulances and fire brigade vehicles will not be stopped despite the diversion and will be allowed to pass through at all times. Police have asked residents to avoid travelling towards these areas during the evening unless necessary, and to use alternative routes wherever possible. People have also been urged to follow the instructions of police personnel stationed at the diversion points so that the arrangement runs smoothly.
