Tensions flared across the Jaipur Rural area after serious allegations emerged detailing custodial violence against Krishnavatar, a full-time functionary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, inside the Naraina police station in Rajasthan. The incident triggered severe unrest among local residents and socio-political workers, leading to massive demonstrations and a total shutdown of local commercial markets. Following intense public outcry, senior district police authorities intervened and suspended six police personnel, including Naraina station house officer Umrao Singh. The injured functionary was initially treated at a local medical center before being transferred in critical condition to the SMS Hospital in Jaipur for specialized care.
Interception on the Road and Detention Under Unclear Circumstances
According to available details, Krishnavatar oversees organizational responsibilities for the Sambhar district. The episode unfolded on a Saturday night while he was traveling toward the village of Phulera. As he passed through the jurisdiction of the Naraina police station, a team of police personnel intercepted him on the road. Allegations state that the police officers forcefully apprehended him and took him directly into custody at the Naraina police station. While preliminary police accounts suggested he was taken into custody under provisions related to disturbing public peace, representatives for the victim contested this basis. Upon arrival at the station, Krishnavatar formally introduced himself to station house officer Umrao Singh, stating his affiliation with the organization. This disclosure reportedly infuriated the station officer, who then allegedly directed subordinate personnel to subject him to physical violence.
Custodial Torture Allegations and Emergency Hospitalization
The most severe accusations center on what transpired inside the premises of the police station. According to complaints filed by the victim's associates, the police personnel stripped Krishnavatar of his clothes, immobilized his limbs, and subjected him to a sustained physical beating. During the assault, the station house officer allegedly uttered derogatory remarks, instructing the personnel to strip him of his organizational pride. The physical abuse caused Krishnavatar's health to deteriorate rapidly, ultimately leading to him losing consciousness inside the station.
Following his collapse, police personnel transported the unconscious worker to a local community health center. Observers and community members reported that additional scuffles and manhandling took place even after reaching the medical facility as concerned citizens began gathering. Recognizing the gravity of his trauma and internal physical damage, attending physicians referred Krishnavatar immediately to the SMS Hospital in Jaipur, where medical teams continue to provide intensive treatment.
Six-Hour Police Station Gherao and Complete Market Closure
News of the custodial assault spread swiftly, prompting hundreds of organization members, volunteers, and local villagers to converge outside the Naraina police station. The crowd staged a massive gherao of the police facility that lasted for approximately six hours, blocking movement and demanding immediate punitive measures against the officers involved. In solidarity with the demonstrations and to express resentment against police conduct, local shopkeepers shuttered their businesses, bringing commercial activity in the town to a complete standstill.
The demonstrators insisted that mere inquiries would not suffice and demanded strict criminal proceedings alongside disciplinary action against every officer who participated in the assault. In response to the escalating crisis, Jaipur Rural Superintendent of Police Hanuman Sahay arrived at the scene with administrative reinforcements. The senior officer held discussions with the protesters, assured them of an impartial inquiry, and took immediate administrative measures to restore civic order.
Disciplinary Action, Political Intervention, and Ongoing High-Level Inquiry
In the wake of the public demonstrations and preliminary verification, the superintendent ordered the immediate suspension of six police personnel. Those placed under suspension include station house officer Umrao Singh, Sub-Inspector Onkar, Constable Ramesh, and three other junior officers. Formal cases under penal provisions for assault and related offenses were also initiated against the accused personnel.
The controversy also drew prominent political leaders to the protest site. Bharatiya Janata Party state chief spokesperson Hanuman Sahay, former legislator Nirmal Kumawat, and BJP Jaipur Rural South district president Rajesh Gurjar joined the demonstration outside the police station, pressing for accountability. The entire matter remains under active investigation directed by the superintendent of police. The inquiry aims to establish the precise factual sequence leading to the initial detention and identify all individuals criminally culpable for the physical violence inflicted inside the station.
