A newborn girl was found abandoned and crying in bushes close to the railway tracks near the Kota Road overbridge in the town of Baran, Rajasthan. Shortly after birth, the infant had been placed on a red plastic sheet typically used in hospitals and covered over with bushes. Fortunately, her cries caught the attention of passersby just in time, averting a tragedy. Aided by pedestrians and social activists, the newborn was promptly rescued and rushed to the district hospital, where medical staff administered immediate first aid.
Newborn Declared Healthy, Under Medical Observation in SNCU
Upon arrival at the district hospital, a team of medical practitioners conducted a comprehensive physical examination of the baby. Following an extensive evaluation, attending doctors confirmed that the newborn girl is completely healthy. She has currently been admitted to the hospital's Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), where she remains under specialised monitoring by medical staff. Promptly informed about the incident, the Child Welfare Committee took official cognisance of the situation and assumed legal custody of the infant, initiating oversight for her welfare and managing all formal procedural steps.
FIR Registered at Kotwali Police Station Against Unknown Suspects
The distressing incident has provoked widespread anger among local social welfare organisations. Taking swift initiative, Prashant Vijayvargiya, president of the Shivay Welfare Society, approached the Kotwali police station and filed an FIR against unidentified individuals responsible for discarding the infant. He urged local law enforcement authorities to promptly trace the insensitive culprits and pursue strict legal measures against them. He noted that at a time when society is preparing for the veneration of young girls during the festival of Navratri, such callous occurrences force society into serious introspection.
Pattern of Distress as Town Records Third Such Incident in Two Months
Prashant Vijayvargiya voiced serious concern regarding the recurrent instances of infants being discarded across the district. Within the short span of the past two months alone, this marks the third such incident reported in the town of Baran. Prior to this, another newborn had been dumped from a motor vehicle near SKG on Kota Road. Social activists have called upon the police administration to treat these episodes with urgency, conduct a thorough probe to expose those guilty, and ensure effective deterrence against such inhuman acts in the future.
