In order to manage the massive influx of pilgrims and maintain smooth traffic flow during the holy month of Sawan, the Chandauli police administration has implemented a comprehensive three day traffic diversion plan across the district. Designed to ensure safety for Kanwar Yatra devotees and prevent severe congestion on major roads, the special traffic regulations will come into effect at 8:00 PM on August 1 and remain active until 6:00 AM on August 4. Throughout this period, heavy freight and goods vehicles will be completely restricted from entering key arterial roads connecting Varanasi, Mughalsarai, Ramnagar, and nearby areas, and will instead be rerouted through dedicated bypass corridors.
Primary Rerouting Corridors for Heavy Vehicles
Specific rerouting measures have been laid out for all large goods carriers and heavy commercial vehicles proceeding from Chandauli toward Varanasi. Such vehicles will be diverted at the Alampur Underpass, directing them onto National Highway-19 (NH-19) to reach Varanasi via the Akhari Bypass. Similarly, all heavy vehicles arriving from the directions of Bihar, Baburi, and local Chandauli routes heading toward Varanasi will be turned at Godhana Chauraha toward National Highway-19.
To avoid bottlenecks inside congested urban zones, traffic originating from Alinagar and Chandauli will be rerouted from Chakia Tiraha, also known as Ganji Prasad Chauraha, straight toward Godhana Chauraha. This arrangement aims to significantly reduce vehicular pressure within Mughalsarai town and the Padav area. Furthermore, heavy vehicles attempting to travel from Mughalsarai through Padav into Varanasi will be routed via the Ramnagar road onto National Highway-19 toward the Akhari Bypass.
Alternative Routes for Light Commercial and Passenger Vehicles
The traffic control plan also makes detailed provisions for cars, light commercial vehicles, and ordinary commuters traveling to neighboring districts. Drivers heading from Chandauli toward Jaunpur, Ghazipur, and Azamgarh are advised to use the Panchphedwa Ring Road. By steering light traffic onto this outer ring road, local authorities aim to clear urban centers of unnecessary transit volume, ensuring steady vehicle speeds across peripheral highways.
Total Vehicle Restrictions at Key Intersections
High security measures and complete entry prohibitions have been established at several major road junctions. Heavy trucks and goods carriers will face a total ban on entering the Ramnagar-Padav route from Kataria Tiraha. Vehicles traveling from Ramnagar to Mughalsarai will be redirected from Shahupuri Tiraha toward the FCI Tiraha. Additionally, heavy commercial transport reaching Lanka Maidan Tiraha from the main highway will not be permitted to advance toward Padav and will be halted on site.
Police Advisory and Pilgrim Safety Objectives
Chandauli traffic police have issued an advisory urging all motor drivers, transport operators, and daily commuters to strictly comply with the designated diversion directives. Commuters are advised to review alternate routes before setting out on their journeys and cooperate fully with traffic officers deployed at major checkpoints. The primary goal of these comprehensive arrangements is to provide a secure environment for Kanwar pilgrims and maintain seamless movement across the regional road network.
