The deteriorating condition of the service roads surrounding the Delta Metro Station in Greater Noida, located adjacent to the national capital Delhi, has emerged as a major source of distress and anxiety for local residents and daily commuters. Large craters, uncovered storm drains, and persistent waterlogging in this prominent area have raised serious questions about the efficiency of local civic body. Despite multiple complaints and efforts to highlight the worsening situation, residents allege that the concerned authorities have failed to initiate any concrete remedial measures.
Daily Perils and Safety Hazards for Commuters
Subhash Bhati, a resident of the area, explained that the service lanes running along both sides of the Delta Metro Station have been in a state of severe disrepair for an extended period. Navigating through these deep potholes has become an everyday struggle and hazard for vehicle drivers. Furthermore, open drains at several locations along the road pose a massive safety threat. Bhati voiced concerns that these uncovered trenches could lead to a major mishap at any moment, especially if a child, an elderly citizen, or a stray animal accidentally slips into them.
The situation becomes significantly more perilous during the rainy season. According to Bhati, even a brief spell of rain leads to waterlogging of about one and a half to two feet on these roads. This accumulation of water completely submerges the deep potholes, making them invisible to drivers and exponentially increasing the likelihood of serious accidents. Despite repeatedly bringing this hazardous situation to the attention of Laxmi VS, the Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) of the Greater Noida Authority, no effective steps have been taken. The residents feel abandoned by the very officials whose duty is to maintain civic safety.
Premium Residential Hubs Amidst Crumbling Infrastructure
The frustration is shared by professionals living in the vicinity. Anil Agarwal, a Chartered Accountant whose office is situated in the Galleria Mall, shared his ordeal. He purchased a villa in this locality about one and a half years ago and has been residing here with his family for approximately eight months. He noted that the condition of the road has not seen even a minor improvement during this period. The entire stretch remains heavily potholed, causing frequent damage to passing vehicles. He pointed out that the lower chassis of cars frequently scrape against the broken road surface, while two-wheeled motorists regularly lose balance and slip, suffering injuries.
This infrastructural failure is particularly stark given the high-profile nature of the locality. The Delta Metro Station area is surrounded by several prominent and high-end residential projects, including Hemisphere and Sun Twilight. Additionally, the region houses numerous major shopping malls, retail stores, and commercial establishments that attract a massive daily footfall. The presence of such crucial commercial and residential projects makes the poor state of the roads a clear reflection of administrative apathy. Local residents point out that these broken roads not only disrupt daily traffic but also lead to stagnated water, creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes and escalating the risk of severe diseases.
The Stark Reality Behind Hi-Tech Claims
Highlighting the irony of the situation, Professor RB Singh, another local resident, criticized the state of the service lanes under and alongside the Delta Metro Station. He expressed that the craters on the road are so deep that commuters are forced to drive in constant fear of accidents. While grand claims are made about transforming Greater Noida into a modern and hi-tech city, the ground reality tells a completely different story. The fact that this neglected stretch is located barely one kilometer away from the main office of the Greater Noida Authority exposes the hollow nature of these administrative assurances. It raises questions about how officials can overlook such severe infrastructure damage right under their noses.
Professor Singh remarked that while there is no shortage of talk regarding massive malls, luxury residential complexes, and ultra-modern amenities, basic public infrastructure continues to remain in a deplorable state. He accused the civic officials of focusing solely on drafting grand development plans on paper while completely ignoring the practical, everyday grievances of the people living in these neighborhoods.
An Urgent Appeal for Administrative Action
The local populace emphasized that this is not a new grievance. Nearly 20 days ago, the residents had raised their voices against the dilapidated roads and open drains, yet the situation remains completely unchanged. They fear that if repair work is not initiated immediately and the hazardous open drains are not securely covered, a major tragedy is inevitable. Consequently, the residents have put forward an urgent demand to the Greater Noida Authority to immediately reconstruct the service roads around the Delta Metro Station, cover all open drains, and implement a permanent drainage solution to prevent waterlogging.
