A tragic crime stemming from a petty commercial argument has claimed the life of a 70-year-old shopkeeper in Pilibhit district, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred in Narayanpur village under the jurisdiction of Barkheda Police Station, where an elderly grocery store owner named Shripal was brutally assaulted with a mattock after refusing to provide items on credit. The customer initially engaged in a heated altercation and later returned with his family members to commit the lethal assault. Police acted swiftly upon receiving the report, apprehending the primary suspect along with his brother and father.
Refusal of Unpaid Store Credit Triggers Violent Confrontation
According to police details, the sequence of events began on Tuesday night at Narayanpur village. A local resident named Sunil Kumar arrived at Shripal's grocery shop demanding items on store credit. However, the elderly shopkeeper Shripal firmly rejected his request. Shripal pointed out that Sunil had existing unpaid dues from previous purchases and insisted that no further items would be given on credit until the past balance was cleared. Angry over the refusal, Sunil began arguing aggressively with the shopkeeper, escalating into a prolonged verbal confrontation.
Assault Team Armed With Agricultural Tools Returns to Shop
Following the heated exchange at the shop, Sunil departed the spot in anger and returned to his residence. Instead of calming down, his fury mounted, prompting him to enlist his family. He gathered his brother Sushil and their father Mahendrapal Gangwar, arming themselves with a heavy spade or mattock. The three men marched back to the grocery store, surrounding the 70-year-old shopkeeper. After subjecting Shripal to verbal abuse, an enraged Sunil swung the heavy spade violently toward the elderly merchant.
Shopkeeper Succumbs to Injuries in Bareilly as Suspects Are Nabbed
The spade blow struck Shripal squarely on his thigh, severing vital tissues and triggering severe arterial bleeding. The elderly man collapsed to the ground unconscious. Local residents and family members immediately alerted the authorities. A police team arrived at the scene and rushed the heavily bleeding shopkeeper to the nearby Barkheda Community Health Center. Given his critical state and massive blood loss, attending doctors referred him to an advanced medical facility in Bareilly. Despite emergency medical interventions by doctors in Bareilly, Shripal succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Barkheda Police Station In-charge Satyendra Kumar stated that following a complaint registered by the deceased shopkeeper's family, an FIR was filed under relevant legal provisions. Police launched an immediate operation and arrested all three named accused: Sunil Kumar alias Bhola, his brother Sushil, and their father Mahendrapal Gangwar. All three suspects remain in custody undergoing rigorous interrogation as legal proceedings move forward rapidly.

In a separate shocking crime, authorities in Delhi uncovered the murder of a 17-year-old minor girl killed by her cousin brother following a domestic dispute. After strangling the victim, the perpetrator stuffed her body inside a heavy suitcase and discarded it in a deserted location in Burari. Delhi Police apprehended the suspect on Tuesday.
