Law enforcement authorities in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, have intensified their crackdown on criminal elements following a dramatic shootout in the Ankur Vihar police station jurisdiction. The operation resulted in the apprehension of two seasoned burglars who sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. The incident unfolded while local police teams were conducting intensive vehicle inspections as part of a heightened security drive in the area.
Tip-Off and Vehicle Check Operation
The breakthrough came after police received specific intelligence on September 9 regarding suspects involved in a series of house break-ins and thefts reported on September 7 in the Sundar Vihar and Sahdullabad localities. Acting on this input, local law enforcement augmented patrolling and surveillance. While checking vehicles near the Ram Lila ground on Garhi Kataiya road, officers signaled two suspects riding a Passion Pro motorcycle to stop.
Retaliatory Firing After Attack on Police
Instead of complying with the police directive, the individuals opened direct fire on the law enforcement team with the intent to kill. Faced with an immediate threat to life, the police personnel retaliated in self-defense. Both suspects were hit in the legs by police fire, neutralizing their ability to escape and enabling officers to successfully capture them at the scene.
Recovery of Stolen Valuables and Firearms
The injured individuals were identified as Akib and Dhyan Singh. Police interrogation revealed that Akib, son of Yamin, is a native of Lisari village in Meerut and currently resides in Madora village in Sonipat, Haryana. Dhyan Singh, son of Jugraj, hails from Madhupur in Mainpuri. Authorities recovered 4,700 rupees in cash, stolen jewelry, two illegal.315 bore pistols, two live cartridges, two spent bullet shells, and house-breaking tools from their possession.
Confession and Search for Accomplices
During questioning, both accused confessed to their involvement in the September 7 burglary. They further disclosed that two other associates were part of their criminal syndicate and are currently evading arrest. Law enforcement teams are conducting raids to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
Extensive Criminal Records
A background check revealed that both men have multiple prior criminal cases registered against them. Akib faces charges related to house burglary in Ankur Vihar and robbery in Delhi. Dhyan Singh has multiple serious cases against him, including burglary in Ankur Vihar, attempted murder and NDPS Act violations in Delhi, and a POCSO Act case in Meerut. Both injured suspects were admitted to a nearby health center for initial medical treatment as legal proceedings continue.
