A deeply disturbing case has surfaced from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a 15-year-old girl says her own maternal uncle, allegedly working together with his truck driver friend, subjected her to gang rape. To break free from the two men, the terrified minor jumped off a truck that was speeding along the highway. The fall left her badly injured, but it is also what saved her life.
Case Registered Under POCSO Act, Both Accused In Custody
Police swung into action as soon as the matter came to light and, given the seriousness of the case, registered it under the POCSO Act along with other relevant serious sections. The POCSO Act is the law specifically meant to deal with sexual offences against minors, which is why police treated the complaint with utmost urgency. The incident took place in the Sajeti police station area of Kanpur. On Thursday, late in the evening, the victim's father personally went to the police station and filed a named complaint against the accused. As soon as the complaint was lodged, police took both named accused, the uncle and the truck driver, into custody.
Uncle Lured His Niece Into A Truck
According to the father's complaint, the accused uncle lured his own 15-year-old niece and took her along with him in a truck. Once she was on board, the uncle and his driver friend together forced themselves on the minor and gang-raped her. When the girl tried to resist the assault, both accused beat her mercilessly. They also threatened her, warning that if she told anyone about what had happened, she would be killed.
Minor Jumped From The Moving Truck Near Aliyapur Toll Plaza
After the assault, the two accused held the minor captive and began driving the truck toward Ghatampur. As the truck approached Aliyapur toll plaza on the Kanpur-Sagar highway, the teenager mustered the courage to outwit her captors and leapt off the moving vehicle. She was injured in the fall on the highway, but she managed to get up and run, somehow making her way back home. When the bloodied, distressed girl reached home and recounted the ordeal to her family, they were left shattered. A similar case had earlier come to light in Lucknow, in which an acquaintance got a young woman drunk and then, along with two friends, assaulted her.
Police Say Both Accused Will Be Produced In Court Friday
ACP Ghatampur Krishnakant said that based on the father's complaint, a case has been registered against the accused uncle and the truck driver under the POCSO Act along with several other serious and relevant sections. He said police acted swiftly and took both accused into custody, and they are currently being interrogated. According to Krishnakant, both accused will be produced in court on Friday. The victim has been sent to hospital for a medical examination so that her condition and the facts of the case can be confirmed. Police said further action will depend on what emerges during the interrogation.
