Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has outlined a clear path for her nephew Akash Anand to resume an active role within the organisation. In a detailed statement posted on X, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister stated that Anand can be reinstated to key party responsibilities provided his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, completely retires from active politics.
Condition Placed for Akash Anand's Organizational Return
Mayawati clarified that Akash Anand still retains the opportunity to work for the BSP and regain his previous responsibilities. However, this return is strictly contingent upon his father-in-law and former BSP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Siddharth stepping away from political life. Mayawati noted that Siddharth must renounce his political ambitions and rise above personal self-interest. Once Siddharth exits politics entirely, Anand will be able to operate freely within the party setup without external familial interference. Under those conditions, the party leadership will sympathetically evaluate restoring his organizational duties, a move that currently reflects the broad consensus within the party.
Disciplinary Concerns Surrounding Ashok Siddharth
Addressing the reasons behind the past disciplinary decisions, Mayawati heavily criticized Ashok Siddharth's conduct. She explained that the BSP had granted Siddharth multiple opportunities to reform his approach and align with party discipline. Instead of setting an example of sacrifice and commitment for the movement, Siddharth repeatedly prioritized his personal and family ambitions over the core objectives of the BSP. Mayawati emphasized that this self-serving behavior severely compromised the party movement and directly harmed the political progression of his son-in-law, Akash Anand.
BSP Strategy for Upcoming State Assembly Elections
Detailing the party strategy in light of the state polls in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, Mayawati revealed that the BSP leadership is selectively re-inducting individuals who had previously strayed, based on a review of their behavior and commitment. Concurrently, strict disciplinary actions are being enforced against anyone obstructing party goals, with the measures taken against Ashok Siddharth serving as a prominent demonstration of this policy.
Call to Protect Dalit Rights and Reservation Movement
Concluding her address, Mayawati warned that the Bahujan movement, the BSP, and the broader Bahujan community are facing intense opposition from rival political parties and casteist elements. She compared the present struggles over reservation rights to the historic challenges experienced during the era of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. Mayawati appealed to all sections of society, particularly the Dalit community, to refrain from actions driven by personal or family self-interest that could undermine the collective movement, adding that history would not forgive those who compromise the cause for individual gain.
