During a routine public grievance hearing known as Janata Darshan, a distressed mother from the Naubasta area approached District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh alongside her teenage daughter to seek urgent financial help. Due to severe economic hardship, the family had been unable to clear the student's school tuition fees for several months, threatening her educational progression. Moved by the officer's compassionate listening, the high school student, Ishu Yadav, expressed a heartfelt wish to tie a Rakhi on the District Magistrate's wrist. The official warmly honored her sentiment, accepted the Rakhi, and fulfilled the protective role of a brother by resolving her financial crisis, easing her daily commute, and securing personal guidance for her career ambitions.
Family Hardship and the Accumulation of Fee Dues
Lalita Yadav, a resident of Awas Vikas Hanspuram in Naubasta, Kanpur, faced severe adversity following the tragic demise of her husband, Pragi Lal Yadav, in 2017. As the sole surviving parent, Lalita assumed full responsibility for providing for her family and funding her children's education. To earn a basic livelihood, she took up domestic work, cleaning houses across the neighborhood. Despite her strenuous physical labor and tight household budget, keeping up with rising educational expenses proved increasingly difficult. Her daughter, Ishu Yadav, is enrolled as a 12th-grade student at KP Vision Sahyog Inter College in Naubasta. Over time, unpaid monthly tuition fees accumulated into a staggering debt of approximately 29,000 rupees. Fearing that the financial distress would force her daughter out of school, Lalita turned to the district administration as a last resort.
District Magistrate Intervenes to Resolve Fee Debt
Upon reviewing the case during the public hearing, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh immediately stepped in to ensure that the girl's schooling remained uninterrupted. He contacted the principal of KP Vision Sahyog Inter College to evaluate the outstanding financial dues. To settle the matter swiftly, the District Magistrate paid half of the pending 29,000 rupees fee out of his own funds. Furthermore, he persuaded the school administration and the principal to waive the remaining half of the debt on humanitarian grounds. This joint effort effectively wiped out the entire pending tuition balance, allowing Ishu to continue her 12th-grade education without the looming fear of disenrollment.
Bicycle Provided to Overcome Daily Commute Challenges
Following the resolution of the tuition issue, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh inquired about Ishu's daily travel routine to school. The student shared that her home was situated roughly two kilometers away from KP Vision Sahyog Inter College and that she had to trek the distance on foot every day due to lack of transport. Recognizing that the long daily walk consumed valuable study time and energy, the District Magistrate arranged a brand-new bicycle for her. On 27 August, the bicycle was officially presented to Ishu, enabling her to ride home from school comfortably on her new two-wheeler.
Civil Services Ambitions and Mentorship Assignment
Encouraged by the support received at the Collectorate, Ishu shared her aspirations for the future. She revealed her dream of dedicating herself to higher studies and eventually becoming an IAS officer. Ishu explained that after joining the civil services, she wants to listen to the grievances of underprivileged citizens and assist them in the same manner the administration supported her family. Applauding her determination, the District Magistrate urged her to remain focused on her academic goals with perseverance. To ensure she receives structured guidance, he appointed Deputy Collector Jyoti Sharma as her dedicated mentor. Moving forward, Deputy Collector Jyoti Sharma will provide ongoing counsel regarding her studies, academic resources, and competitive exam preparation. What began as a plea for relief on Raksha Bandhan ultimately provided a deserving student with both financial security and a clear path toward her career aspirations.
