While Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh is recognized as a smart city, the grim reality of this urban center is starkly visible in the Kothiwal Nagar area. Here, drains and water outlets are completely choked due to accumulated filth, causing drainage water to spill onto the streets during rainfalls. This dirty water eventually enters residential homes, subjecting local residents to enormous daily hardships. Citizens complain that municipal teams rarely visit the area for cleaning, and due to official apathy, people are forced to endure these abysmal living conditions against their will.
Residents Vent Frustration Over Worening Infrastructure
Local residents Faiez and Vinay shared that cleaning happens very rarely in the area and the condition of the roads is extremely poor. During the monsoon season, the situation deteriorates further as filth spreads all around and a foul stench fills the air. People pointed out that with elections approaching, politicians make grand promises only to forget them later. Although residents have filed complaints with the municipal corporation numerous times, cleaning crews show up sporadically and forget about the area soon after. Inside the narrow lanes, massive piles of garbage remain unattended, and the severely damaged roads receive no attention from authorities.
Municipal Teams Surface Once Every Few Months
Locals stated that the municipal cleaning crew visits the neighborhood only once every three to six months. When it rains, the situation becomes so severe that drain water enters houses. Even after the rain stops, garbage remains trapped in the drains, producing a pungent odor that makes walking down the street repulsive. This location has effectively turned into a breeding ground for various illnesses. Another local youth, Vinay, explained that when the municipal team finally arrives after months, they pick up only half the garbage and leave the rest behind, ensuring neither the drains nor the roads are properly maintained.
Industrial Waste and Administrative Apathy
According to the locals, this drain receives waste dumped by local residents as well as nearby factories, which flows down and accumulates here. Wastewater from smaller gutters also empties into this spot, turning the drain entirely into a massive mound of refuse. When heavy rains occur, the water overflows and rushes directly into houses, creating endless misery for the public. The municipal corporation officials bear direct responsibility for this crisis, as their ongoing negligence leaves citizens struggling with these severe sanitation failures.
