A modest household in Ballia has drawn significant attention as a 19-year-old young woman shoulders the immense responsibility of raising her younger siblings following the loss of both parents. Crushing Responsibilities After Losing Parents
Residing in ward number 13 of Maniyar Nagar Panchayat, Khushbu lost both her father, Virendra Gond, and her mother, Manju Devi. The household now consists of four siblings, including 19-year-old Khushbu, 16-year-old Khushi, 14-year-old Aditya, and 11-year-old Sudhani. Following their father's passing years ago, their mother somehow managed their upbringing, but her death left the siblings completely parentless. With no elders left to guide them, the full weight of the household fell squarely on Khushbu's shoulders. To keep their kitchen running, Khushbu managed to secure an outsourcing job at the Maniyar Nagar Panchayat roughly two months ago. Trapped in severe poverty and mounting debts, the family faced relentless grief and financial distress.
A Heartbreaking Farewell
Local social worker Amritesh alias Antu shared details about the family's extreme poverty, explaining that debts piled up heavily due to the medical expenses for their mother's treatment, eventually forcing them to mortgage their jewelry. The situation was so destitute that when the mother passed away, there were no funds left for her last rites, prompting local residents to pool money together for the funeral. With no adult male relatives available to carry the bier, Khushbu, her sisters, and her brother shouldered their mother's body themselves, while the 14-year-old brother performed the final cremation rites in a deeply emotional and unforgettable moment.
District Administration Steps In
Once the heartbreaking story of the siblings came to light, the district administration acted promptly. Ballia District Magistrate Mangala Prasad Singh took immediate cognizance of the situation. Through the Executive Officer of Maniyar Nagar Panchayat, the orphaned children were summoned to the official chamber, where the District Magistrate personally listened to their grievances and ordered immediate action.
Prioritized Access to Welfare Schemes and Free Education
After hearing the children out, the District Magistrate instructed relevant officials to ensure that the family receives benefits from government schemes on a priority basis. Directives were issued to provide free education up to the 12th standard for the children, along with an Antyodaya ration card, an Ayushman card, and an LPG gas connection. Furthermore, authorities were ordered to arrange two bicycles for the children and ensure the extension of benefits under the Chief Minister Child Service Scheme. The administration's prompt response has sparked widespread appreciation, raising hopes that government assistance will become a genuine lifeline for these orphaned siblings.
