Unidentified burglars attempted a daring robbery at an automated teller machine late Tuesday night in the Ghatampur police jurisdiction of Kanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. Entering the Hitachi ATM situated at Tilsara Morh in Patara town, the perpetrators made rigorous efforts to break open the cash vault of the machine. However, after failing to crack open the heavy security system of the ATM, the culprits aborted their cash heist. To prevent identification, the fleeing thieves vandalized the premises, tore out the backup battery installed behind the ATM, and forcefully extracted the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) unit connected to the security cameras. The incident surfaced on Wednesday morning, triggering widespread alarm among local residents and business owners.
Cash Vault Resists Break-in Attempt
According to local accounts, the group of intruders snuck into the Hitachi ATM booth near Tilsara Morh under the cover of darkness late Tuesday night. Equipped with heavy breaking tools, the suspects spent considerable time trying to pry open the internal vault of the dispenser to extract the deposited cash. Despite repeated attempts, the heavy metal reinforcement of the ATM remained intact, foiling their primary objective. Realizing that the cash was inaccessible, the thieves turned their attention to the surrounding equipment within the booth. They dismantled and carried away the heavy storage battery located behind the machine. Furthermore, they detached the DVR console storing the footage of all CCTV cameras operating inside the kiosk. Investigators believe that removing the DVR was a calculated move by the perpetrators to eliminate video trail and hide their physical identities from law enforcement agencies.

The attempted burglary came to light early Wednesday morning when local citizens and maintenance personnel arrived near the ATM kiosk at Tilsara Morh. Upon discovering the damaged machine and missing surveillance hardware, they immediately alerted the local police station. A police contingent arrived promptly at the site to cordon off the area and conduct a thorough crime scene examination. Forensic teams gathered physical evidence and fingerprint samples from the tampered machine and the booth interior. Investigating officers have initiated a comprehensive audit of external CCTV cameras installed across commercial establishments and traffic junctions at the main intersection of Patara town to trace the movement of the suspects.

Briefing media about the ongoing investigation, Ghatampur Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Krishnakant stated that law enforcement authorities have registered a case regarding the attempted ATM robbery. ACP Krishnakant confirmed that specialized police teams are carefully screening video feeds from neighboring surveillance points and synthesizing physical evidence recovered from the crime scene. He emphasized that police are analyzing the entry and getaway routes utilized by the culprits during the late-night operation. The senior officer expressed confidence that the identity of the suspects will be established shortly, leading to their prompt arrest and complete resolution of the case.
