A late-night roof collapse in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district has killed five people, including four young children, after part of a house caved in without warning on Sunday night. The tragedy struck in the Fugana police station area, where several family members were trapped under the debris. News of the collapse quickly spread panic and grief through the neighbourhood.
How the collapse unfolded
According to accounts from the area, several family members were inside the house at the time the roof gave way. A loud crashing sound accompanied the sudden collapse, drawing neighbours out of their homes and toward the site within moments. A crowd gathered quickly as word spread, and local residents lost no time alerting the police, who reached the spot soon after.
Rescue effort pulls victims from the rubble
Residents and police personnel worked together to clear the debris in a prolonged and difficult rescue operation. By the time those trapped could be pulled free, four children and one man had already died. The other people injured in the collapse were rushed to the nearest hospital, where they remain under treatment.
CM Yogi Adityanath orders swift action
As soon as he learned of the tragedy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate note of the incident and expressed deep condolences to the grieving families of the four children and the one man who died. He directed senior officials from the district administration and the health department to reach the site without delay and ensure the injured receive proper treatment on a priority basis. He also instructed officials to personally reach out to the families of the deceased and ensure that all possible assistance from the government, including financial aid, is provided to them immediately.
