Kathmandu is once again grappling with a severe natural calamity as sudden flash floods and widespread devastation have shaken the entire nation. Prominent Nepalese businessman, former parliamentarian, and Chaudhary Group Chairman Binod Chaudhary has expressed profound grief over the disaster, stating that no one was prepared for a catastrophe of this magnitude. Recalling the horrific scenes, Chaudhary shared that his immediate reaction was one of absolute shock and immense sadness. He noted that Nepal has endured numerous natural disasters in the past, ranging from the 2015 earthquake and the COVID pandemic to similar calamities in the same region last year, which resulted in massive destruction. Chaudhary also made significant remarks concerning China.
Chaudhary pointed out that the recent events in Nepal have terrified everyone, noting how entire villages were washed away within minutes, affecting thousands of lives. Bridges collapsed, and people were left with no idea when or where the disaster would stop. Discussing infrastructure links with China, he remarked that given China's robust and advanced engineering capabilities, if such a disaster can unfold there, the sheer scale and impact of the event can be easily imagined.

Speaking to media in Kathmandu, Binod Chaudhary recounted that while Nepal has witnessed the catastrophic 2015 earthquake, the COVID pandemic, and previous year's disasters, this time the scene was terrifying and unprecedented. His initial reaction was deep shock and boundless sorrow. Although Nepal has faced many natural calamities historically, this time entire villages vanished into rushing waters in a matter of minutes. Thousands were affected, sturdy bridges were destroyed, and no one understood where the destruction would halt, representing a crisis for which no preparation existed.
Did The Foundation Of China's Strong Infrastructure Collapse?
Expressing astonishment at the destruction in border areas connecting Nepal and China, Binod Chaudhary commented on China's infrastructure. He stated that China is globally renowned for its strong and modern construction capabilities, but when the flood's fury is powerful enough to shatter concrete structures and bridges connecting to China like houses of cards, anyone can gauge how destructive the scope and impact of this disaster truly were. Addressing immediate priorities amidst this grave crisis, Chaudhary emphasized that urgent attention must be directed toward providing relief materials to the survivors.
Rescuing people and surviving citizens through every possible effort is the foremost priority at present. Praising the government and administration, he mentioned that for the first time, he has witnessed the entire system actively mobilizing to handle such a crisis with excellent coordination. Currently, individuals are being airlifted via helicopters, which has successfully saved countless lives. Although the administration has accelerated relief operations, the disaster has left behind a trail of massive destruction.
Death Toll Expected To Exceed Seven Thousand
Countless individuals have lost their lives, and according to initial reports and discussions, the death toll is appearing to reach well over 7,000 as several villages have been completely submerged and wiped off the map. This tragic turn of events in Nepal has once again raised serious questions regarding climate change and infrastructure security in mountainous terrains. Currently, the Nepalese government, security forces, and international aid agencies are working on a war footing to rescue trapped individuals from the debris, though continuous bad weather and broken routes are posing severe challenges to relief efforts.
