A violent clash stemming from an ongoing property dispute erupted late Tuesday night in Laxmichak village, situated under the jurisdiction of the Gaurichak police station in Bihar's Patna district. A group of armed miscreants opened indiscriminate fire aiming at local resident Suresh Singh alias Master. While Suresh Singh narrowly escaped unhurt, fleeing assailants were intercepted by enraged local residents, leading to a severe mob beating that resulted in the death of one suspect during treatment and left another critically wounded.
Gunfire Target Escapes, Villagers Corner Fleeing Attackers
According to details of the incident that occurred late Tuesday evening, three armed assailants arrived in Laxmichak village and launched a sudden shooting attack targeting Suresh Singh alias Master. Despite multiple rounds being fired at him, Suresh Singh remained uninjured. The loud sound of gunfire alerted nearby villagers, who quickly gathered and reacted to the assault. Realizing they were outnumbered, the three attackers attempted to flee the scene, but vigilant villagers pursued them immediately.
During the chase, the crowd managed to corner and overpower two of the escaping criminals, subjecting them to a heavy physical assault. The third assailant managed to flee into the darkness and evade capture. The two suspects captured and thrashed by the mob were subsequently identified as Suraj Kumar and Vivek Kumar.
Police Intervention and Fatality at PMCH
Upon receiving emergency reports regarding the shooting and mob violence, police personnel from both Gaurichak and neighboring Parsa Bazar police stations dispatched teams to Laxmichak village. Officers rescued the two severely injured suspects from the crowd and rushed them immediately to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for urgent medical care. During treatment at PMCH, Suraj Kumar succumbed to his injuries, while Vivek Kumar remains admitted under medical supervision.
Stolen Motorcycle Recovered as Forensic Team Examines Site
Providing details on the ongoing investigation, Patna Sadar Police Sub-Divisional Officer-2 (SDPO-2) Ranjan Kumar confirmed that law enforcement thoroughly inspected the crime scene. Authorities seized two live cartridges, one spent cartridge casing, and a motorcycle left behind by the assailants. Preliminary checks revealed that the seized two-wheeler had previously been stolen from the Phulwari Sharif police station jurisdiction.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was brought in to gather scientific evidence from the location. Additionally, police are analyzing footage retrieved from nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to establish the exact sequence of events and map out the getaway route of the culprits.
Force Deployed in Village as Search for Third Suspect Continues
Initial police investigations confirm that an old land dispute served as the primary trigger for the violent attack. Following the incident, tension mounted across Laxmichak and neighboring localities, prompting authorities to deploy additional police forces as a precautionary measure to preserve law and order. Special police teams are conducting continuous raids at potential hideouts to arrest the fleeing third accused. SDPO-2 Ranjan Kumar emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against all individuals involved once the investigation concludes.
