A harrowing incident has emerged from Korwa village under the Khuhdi police station area of Jaisalmer district, where a woman was doused in petrol and set ablaze at her matrimonial home nearly fourteen years after marriage. The victim, who sustained over 90 percent burn injuries across her body, battled for her life before passing away during medical treatment at a hospital in Jodhpur. Following a formal complaint lodged by her father, local police swiftly took four members of her in-laws' family into custody for interrogation.
Late-Night Attack with Petrol Leaves Victim Critically Injured
The horrifying assault took place past 1:00 am on the night of September 21, 2026. According to the complaint, petrol was poured over Hina inside the matrimonial house before she was set on fire. The inferno engulfed her rapidly, inflicting burns covering more than 90 percent of her body. Upon receiving information regarding the incident, a police team rushed to the scene immediately. Family members transported Hina in a critical state to Jawahir Hospital in Jaisalmer. Given her precarious condition and extensive burns, attending physicians urgently referred her to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur for advanced medical care. Despite days of intensive medical intervention by specialists, Hina succumbed to her severe injuries at around 6:00 am on the morning of September 24.
Sustained Marvellous Torture and Demands for a Vehicle
Khuhdi Station House Officer Bhagu Ram stated that legal proceedings were initiated based on a complaint registered by Purkharam Bheel, a government teacher hailing from Manpiya village. The police report documents that Hina was married to Bhagwanaram, a resident of Korwa village, on June 29, 2012. Her father alleged that shortly after the wedding, members of the matrimonial home began subjecting Hina to physical and mental harassment. The family claimed that repeated demands for dowry and other items were placed upon her, with particular pressure exerted to bring a car from her maternal household.
Allegations Involving Ancestral Land and Covert Abortions
In his complaint, Hina's father leveled grave accusations against her sister-in-law, Amrita Devi. He alleged that Amrita Devi sought to usurp ancestral agricultural property and deliberately did not want Hina to bear any children, which would introduce additional claimants to the estate. The complaint further stated that Hina was deceitfully administered abortion pills alongside other unidentified substances. Her father noted that these chemical administrations caused Hina's physical health to deteriorate continuously over time. Law enforcement officials maintained that the veracity of these claims will be established through the course of formal investigation.
Superstitious Rituals and Coercive Intimidation
The grieving family also accused the in-laws of tormenting Hina under the pretext of superstitious practices. According to her father, rather than providing proper medical treatment when her health faltered, family members forcibly took her to a local Mata temple shrine. There, occult rituals and superstitious ceremonies were performed to intimidate and frighten her mentally. Alongside these practices, she was consistently badgered regarding a car that her maternal side had purchased approximately two years prior, with repeated demands that it be handed over to her marital family.
Police Arrest Four In-Laws as Dowry Death Investigation Deepens
Following Hina's demise, Khuhdi police accelerated their investigation into the matter. Station House Officer Bhagu Ram confirmed that police arrested the victim's husband Bhagwanaram, father-in-law Sonaram, mother-in-law Lasmo Devi, and sister-in-law Amrita Devi. All four suspects are currently undergoing sustained interrogation. Authorities have registered the case under allegations of dowry death. Investigators are reconstructing the exact sequence of events from the late night of September 21 to determine the circumstances leading to the fire. Detectives are also examining the specific allegations concerning property disputes, vehicular demands, forced abortion substances, and superstitious practices.
