A remarkable blend of festive devotion and national pride has taken center stage in Hyderabad for this year's Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. In the Uppuguda locality, a striking pandal has been set up featuring Lord Ganesha in a distinct military setting inspired by Operation Sindoor. Organized by the Sri Mallikarjuna Nagar Yuva Kalyana Sangham, the pandal presents Lord Ganesha along with his traditional mount, Mooshak the mouse, equipped with firearms, creating an eye-catching and unconventional sight for visiting devotees.
Showcasing Advanced Defense Hardware
Crafted by skilled local artisans, the specialized idol project was completed at an approximate expenditure of Rs 6 lakh. The installation integrates miniature replicas of sophisticated defense equipment to emphasize India's strategic military might. Prominently featured around the central deity are detailed models of the BrahMos cruise missile, an S-400 rifle setup, and various infantry units, reflecting the tactical capabilities of modern defense forces.
Honoring Historical Military Milestones
Explaining the vision behind the pandal, organizer Srikanth noted that the concept was conceived as a heartfelt salute to the relentless courage and determination of the Indian Armed Forces. Alongside the main installation, the venue features educational posters commemorating historic confrontations and security operations. These displays cover the Indo-Pakistani wars of 1947 and 1965, the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, the 1999 Kargil War, the 2016 Uri incident, the 2019 Pulwama attack, and the recent 2025 Operation Sindoor.
Celebrating Women Power and Artisan Dedication
Highlighting the driving motivation behind the chosen subject, Srikanth remarked, "We selected the Operation Sindoor theme because it demonstrates women's power to the entire world, showing two women ready to neutralize threats within 45 minutes." Transforming this concept into reality required rigorous labor over 50 to 55 days, with a dedicated team of around 10 artisans working round the clock to shape every intricate detail.
Nearly Half a Century of Thematic Celebrations
The Sri Mallikarjuna Nagar Yuva Kalyana Sangham has been organizing the annual Ganesh festival uninterrupted for 49 years. The association frequently selects contemporary national milestones for its festive displays, having modeled the previous year's celebration around the historic Chandrayaan lunar mission. To complement this year's patriotic display, organizers are also preparing a 20-minute AI-generated short film for the upcoming Navratri period, narrating the valor of the armed forces and the tactical execution of Operation Sindoor.
