Questions regarding child safety have resurfaced in the national capital following a disturbing incident of physical abuse at a prominent play school in north-east Delhi. A 3-year-old toddler was allegedly subjected to violence and mistreatment, and a CCTV video capturing the ordeal has been circulating widely on social media platforms, sparking outrage among parents.
How the ordeal came to light
The disturbing episode unraveled when the 3-year-old child complained of severe pain in his ears to his parents. Alarmed by the grievance, the parents rushed the young boy to a doctor, who examined him and revealed that both of his eardrums were swollen due to physical assault. Armed with this medical finding, the distraught parents immediately rushed to the school to confront the administration.School administration demands money for CCTV access
Upon reaching the institution, the parents brought up the physical abuse with the school authorities, but according to the child's father, the administration flatly denied that any such incident had occurred. When the parents demanded access to the classroom CCTV cameras, the father stated that the school administration demanded 1,500 rupees just to provide the ID and password. The parents paid the 1,500 rupees, following which they were given the login credentials.
Upon obtaining access, the child's mother thoroughly checked the classroom footage from the 16th, 17th, and 18th, and was horrified by what she saw. The footage clearly showed the child being subjected to physical abuse. Following this discovery, the parents lodged a formal complaint with the local authorities, prompting police action. Police action and legal proceedings
The local police department confirmed that a case has been officially registered regarding the alleged assault on the child attending the Delhi play school. Authorities filed charges against the school administration and a teacher under the Juvenile Justice Act and the POCSO Act. The incident took place at a play school located in the Jafrabad area of Delhi. Police stated that CCTV footage clearly shows a teacher assaulting the child, and further investigations are underway.
Cases involving crimes against minors in the capital have previously drawn severe legal responses, such as an earlier instance where a tuition teacher was booked under POCSO for harassing and raping a 15-year-old girl. Authorities in the current Delhi play school case are continuing their investigation as they search for the accused teacher.
