In a significant move to elevate the cultural heritage and folk traditions of Rajasthan, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shekhawati University is preparing to establish a dedicated Rajasthani Language Study Center. The proposal for this new academic unit will soon be tabled before the academic council, and once approved, the formal implementation process will begin.
Expanding Research and Scholarship Opportunities
The creation of this center will open up robust avenues for students and researchers to explore subjects centered around Rajasthani literature, local folklore, traditional music, and historical landmarks. Shekhawati is nationally recognized for its ornate havelis, distinct dialects, and vibrant cultural practices. Providing a formal academic platform will greatly assist in documenting and preserving these unique regional assets.
The university already houses a center dedicated to traditional Indian knowledge. With the addition of the new language study center, the institution aims to systematically institutionalize local dialects and folklore. Both centers will collaborate to document traditional knowledge systems and cultural materials, ensuring that academic research in these domains receives proper institutional backing.
Raj Bhavan Directives and Implementation
To integrate Rajasthani language more firmly into higher education and research, study centers are slated to come up across 11 major universities in the state. Following explicit directives from Governor and Chancellor Haribhau Bagde, the Raj Bhavan secretariat issued formal communications to the vice-chancellors of these universities, instructing them to initiate the setup procedures without delay.
Preserving Regional Heritage Through Academia
Rajasthani is much more than a medium of everyday communication; it embodies the folklore, age-old customs, traditional songs, and collective memory of the state. Establishing dedicated studies at the university level will allow scholars to examine these historical layers methodically. Ramsingh Sarawag, Deputy Registrar at Shekhawati University, noted that procedures for setting up the center are already underway, which will ultimately provide scholars with an organized framework to study local arts and heritage.
