Cannons that once roared across battlefields and rained explosive shells are now emerging from his hands to enhance the elegance of royal palaces, grand mansions, and luxury buildings. Gajanan has been involved in stone carving for several years. He inherited this traditional art from his ancestors and has continuously refined his skills over time.

While standard artisans typically carve window screens, idols, and decorative items from red stone, Gajanan developed the distinct capability to mold this hard material into the shape of ancient weaponry. This innovation became his signature identity. He explains that while historical cannons were traditionally forged from various metals, he replicates that exact historical silhouette onto the locally sourced and nationally renowned red stone of Karauli.
Combining machine cutting with handmade details
Creating these pieces involves a meticulous process. Initial cutting and rough shaping of the stone are done using machinery, but the intricate detailing and delicate carving work are performed entirely by hand. Gajanan notes that crafting a single massive pair of red stone cannons takes approximately 30 days. A single large cannon is priced around 60,000 rupees, while a complete pair can fetch up to 1.20 lakh rupees.

Gajanan points out that during the bygone royal era, cannons served as lethal weapons for warfare. Today, however, his stone creations are not tools of combat but rather breathtaking specimens of art.
