Modest economic backgrounds and limited living spaces often seem like barriers to massive career ambitions, but a determined household in Uttar Pradesh proved that focused dedication can alter family destinies. In the Lalganj town of Pratapgarh district, a rural bank manager named Anil Mishra raised his four children in a modest two-room house alongside his wife. Rather than imposing rigid expectations, the parents allowed their children complete freedom to chase their own aspirations. All four children, Yogesh, Madhavi, Lokesh, and Kshama, completed their primary schooling through Hindi-medium institutions with very ordinary beginnings.
Sisters Faced Initial Setbacks in Civil Services Prep
The civil services journey inside the household commenced when the two daughters, Madhavi and Kshama, decided to prepare for the rigorous Union Public Service Commission examination. Despite dedicated hours and extensive hard work, their early attempts did not yield the desired selection, creating an atmosphere of quiet disappointment at home. At that time, the eldest brother, Yogesh Mishra, was employed as a well-paid software engineer in Noida. He had never harboured personal aspirations of joining government administrative services, but watching his sisters struggle motivated him to intervene.
Software Engineer Leaves Tech Career to Decode the Exam
In order to pinpoint where the preparation strategy was falling short, Yogesh made an unconventional decision in 2013 by resigning from his lucrative corporate engineering post. His sole objective was to personally decipher the examination syllabus, marking criteria, and question trends so that he could act as an effective mentor for his sisters. He plunged straight into the coursework himself, mastering the material quickly enough to crack the 2013 examination on his very first attempt, securing selection as an IAS officer.
Shared Study Notes Turn Preparation into a Collective Mission
The breakthrough of the eldest brother infused the household with fresh determination and structured direction. Yogesh shared his self-made study notes, analytical techniques, and tactical planning with the remaining three siblings. Studying collaboratively like a cohesive study group, the family saw immediate rewards the following year. In 2014, Madhavi Mishra secured an impressive All India Rank of 62, officially becoming the family's second IAS officer and setting off a streak of consecutive qualifications.
Double Selection in 2015 Enters National Record Book
The momentum reached its pinnacle during the declaration of the 2015 civil services results. Younger brother Lokesh Mishra cleared the exam with All India Rank 44 to become an IAS officer. In the same examination cycle, the youngest sister, Kshama Mishra, clinched All India Rank 172 to earn an appointment into the Indian Police Service. Having all four siblings from a single ordinary household qualify for elite civil services marked a rare national feat, earning the family an entry in the 'India Book of Records'.
