A tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district has left an entire village in mourning after three children drowned in a deep, rain-filled pit in Rivai village under Charkhari tehsil. The victims include a brother and sister from the same family, and grief has gripped the neighbourhood since the incident.
How the accident unfolded
The incident took place on Sunday evening around 6 pm. A large pit had been dug behind the Model School in Rivai village for extracting soil. Following heavy rain in the preceding days, the pit had filled up completely with water and had also become considerably deeper. In the evening, a few children from the village were playing near the same pit. While playing, three of them suddenly slipped and fell into the deep water. Because the water was so deep, all three began drowning almost immediately.
Three young lives lost
The children who lost their lives in the accident have been identified as 14-year-old Prince Ahirwar, his 11-year-old cousin sister Roshni Ahirwar, and 10-year-old Anshul Ahirwar, who lived nearby. Seeing the children drowning, people in the area panicked and rushed to help while raising an alarm. The police were also informed immediately.
Rescue operation lasted nearly ninety minutes
As soon as the information reached them, police and local administration teams rushed to the spot without delay. Rivai outpost in-charge Sujit Jaiswal personally entered the water and, with the help of villagers and local divers, launched a search for the children. After nearly an hour and a half of strenuous effort, all three children were finally pulled out of the water, but by then too much time had already been lost and their lives could not be saved.
Doctors declared all three dead on arrival
Police and family members rushed the children, who were in extremely critical condition, straight to the Community Health Centre in Charkhari. Doctors there examined the children and declared all three dead. Following legal procedure, the police then took custody of the bodies, prepared the panchnama and sent them for post-mortem examination.
Administration visits grieving families
On learning of the accident, SDM Awanish Kumar Tiwari reached the spot along with a team from the revenue department to take stock of the situation. Officials met the grieving families, consoled them, and assured them of all possible financial and legal assistance from the government. The death of three children in a single accident has left the entire Rivai village in deep grief, with residents still shaken by what happened.
