A railway employee from the Kanksa Sherpur area of West Bengal returned home after a two day trip to Kolkata to meet his son, only to find his house ransacked and more than Rs 50 lakh worth of gold jewellery and cash missing. Subir Chandra Ghosh and his wife had left the house empty for just two days, and what they walked back into left the entire family shaken.
Main Door Found Broken, House in Complete Disarray
Subir Chandra Ghosh said that when he and his wife returned home on Sunday evening, they found the lock on the main door broken. The moment they stepped inside, it was clear something was badly wrong, belongings were strewn all over the rooms and every corner of the house showed signs of a thorough search. The sight left the family in shock, and they informed the police without any delay.
Almirah, Box and Bed Broken as Gold and Cash Worth Rs 50 Lakh Vanish
According to Ghosh, the burglars broke open the almirah inside the house, and even the box and the bed were found damaged. Every bit of gold, jewellery and cash kept in the house was gone. The family claims that gold and cash worth around Rs 50 lakh were stolen in the burglary, wiping out what had been years of savings in just a matter of hours. Describing his distress, Ghosh said, "I am feeling completely helpless." The incident has left the entire family frightened and devastated.
Police Suspect a Planned Burglary, Scan CCTV Footage
As soon as the incident was reported, police from the Kanksa police station reached the spot and launched an investigation. Officers are now trying to establish how the burglars entered the house and whether they already knew the house would be empty for two days. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is also being examined to help identify the culprits. Police's initial assessment is that the burglary was not a random act but a carefully planned one. Investigators say they are working to identify everyone involved and arrest them at the earliest.
