Residents across Chhattisgarh can now access a streamlined process for modifying personal details on their official records. The state administration has eliminated the previous necessity of visiting dedicated enrolment centres or travelling extensively to Rajnandgaon for gazette publications regarding name or address alterations.
Digitisation via Seva Setu Portal
For the very first time, the entire modification procedure has been brought online through the Seva Setu portal. This digital shift enables citizens to execute necessary corrections and fulfil document formalities directly from their homes, removing traditional administrative hurdles.
Reducing Financial Burden and Eliminating Brokers
Previously, substantial changes to names or surnames required compulsory gazette notifications, exposing applicants to significant financial and psychological distress. Alongside official costs, individuals often incurred heavy expenditures ranging between 10,000 to 12,000 rupees through intermediaries and brokers. To eradicate this burden, authorities have regularised both the process and the associated costs.
Under the updated framework, applicants must submit their requests online via the e-District portal through the Seva Setu platform and deposit a nominal fee of ₹430 through the State Bank of India (SBI).
Application Tracking and Verification Steps
Upon completing the submission, citizens receive a unique Application Reference Number (ARN) to monitor their application status online in real time. Uploaded documents undergo primary verification by the respective tehsildar before moving to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for formal confirmation.
Following SDM approval, files are forwarded to the government press for gazette publication. Once published, the digital copy of the gazette notification becomes directly accessible to the applicant through the portal.
Time Limits and Mandatory Documents
Authorities have established a strict timeline ensuring that every modification request is fully resolved within 29 working days. During online submission, applicants must upload proof of name change published in local newspapers, documents bearing signatures of two witnesses, a notarised affidavit on a 50-rupee stamp paper, and essential identity verification documents. This administrative reform saves substantial time and money for citizens across the state.
