A high-level meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance was convened in New Delhi to address concerns regarding the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Joining the discussions virtually via a Zoom call, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray addressed the leaders for approximately 10 minutes, critically assessing the current pattern of independent party protests. He emphasized that the opposition must shed isolated demonstrations and instead project a consolidated front to mount effective resistance.
Need for a Unified Agitation Over Isolated Demonstrations
During his address, Thackeray pointed out that staging separate demonstrations across individual states dilutes the overall political impact. Rather than each party organizing standalone public programs, the entire alliance should coordinate a massive mass movement under a single shared banner. He underlined that individual parties pursuing their own private protest schedules serves little purpose, noting that genuine impact on the ground requires every allied party to mobilize together simultaneously.
Concerns Surrounding Independent Party Demonstrations
Without singling out any partner directly by name, Thackeray expressed clear reservations about the tendency of walking alone on critical national issues. Referring specifically to sit-in demonstrations organized independently in Maharashtra, he maintained that such initiatives belong rightfully under the collective banner of the alliance. This came against the backdrop of directives issued by the Congress leadership instructing its state units to launch protests against the poll panel nationwide, which triggered scattered agitations across several regions. Thackeray articulated grave concern that such individual moves project fragmentation rather than solidarity.
October 4 Protests and Future Action Plan
Outlining the immediate road map, Uddhav Thackeray announced that Shiv Sena (UBT) will spearhead a major protest against the Election Commission in Maharashtra on October 4. Moving forward from that demonstration, he urged the entire INDIA alliance to stage a collective agitation directed at both the central government and the poll authority. In his assessment, any mass resistance will remain potent and persuasive only when all alliance constituents march shoulder to shoulder under a unified banner.
