The Indian women's hockey team clinched the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan after securing a victory against China in the final. Two key players from Mizoram, Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi, featured in the championship-winning squad, prompting the state government to declare a cash incentive of Rs 25 lakh for each player in honor of their international achievement.
A Landmark Feat for State Sports
Chief Minister Lalduhoma extended his congratulations to the national team while underscoring Lalremsiami's role in guiding the squad to this historic win. The achievement represents a major milestone in Mizoram's sporting landscape, as Lalremsiami and Lalthantluangi have etched their names as the very first athletes from the state to secure an Asian Games gold medal.
Cash Rewards Under Existing Sports Policy
Announcing the decision on his official social media account, Lalduhoma affirmed that the incentive will be released under the framework of the Mizoram Sports Incentives Cash Award Scheme. The Chief Minister also conveyed his best wishes to both hockey stars and the Indian women's squad as they prepare for future international tournaments.
