Public transport services faced intense disruption in Ajmer on Wednesday as state roadways employees staged an abrupt road blockade to protest the physical assault of a colleague. Agitated workers parked their passenger buses in haphazard angles across Ambedkar Circle, situated directly in front of the district collectorate. The sudden demonstration completely paralyzed traffic along the major arterial thoroughfare, trapping daily commuters and resulting in extensive vehicular queues during busy daylight hours.
En Route Dispute on the Pushkar-Gangapur Service
The confrontation originated aboard a roadways bus that was ferrying passengers along the route from Pushkar to Gangapur. According to the vehicle's driver, Bhagwan Sahay, an unidentified individual dressed in a police uniform attacked him. Sahay stated that the assailant appeared heavily intoxicated and engaged in physical violence, including slapping him without justification. Word of the confrontation quickly traveled back to the central bus depot, triggering widespread resentment among transport crew members who demanded immediate administrative action against the attacker.
Traffic Disruption at Ambedkar Circle and Police Intervention
In response to the alleged assault, protesting transport staff drove multiple buses outside the bus terminal and effectively barricaded the central intersection at Ambedkar Circle. As the gridlock intensified outside administrative offices, law enforcement teams were dispatched to the location to manage the crowd. Senior officers engaged the agitating roadways staff in discussions that lasted approximately half an hour. Persuaded by official reassurances, the drivers eventually agreed to clear their vehicles from the road, gradually restoring routine traffic flow across the corridor.
Investigation and Surveillance Review Underway
Following the resolution of the blockade, investigators launched formal procedures to identify the assailant. Police took driver Bhagwan Sahay and several witnesses to the police station to record their detailed accounts of the dispute. Surveillance camera recordings from establishments and junctions surrounding the incident site are being systematically analyzed to ascertain the individual's identity and determine whether he is affiliated with the police force. Civil Lines Station House Officer Shambhu Singh Shekhawat assured the agitating roadways workers that an impartial investigation would be conducted and appropriate legal steps taken against the offender.
