A massive uproar broke out in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, following allegations that a private healthcare facility refused to release a deceased person's body over unpaid medical bills. The incident drew angry reactions from relatives, triggering intense protests outside the establishment located right in front of the district hospital. Upon receiving information about the escalating situation, local law enforcement from the Sadar police station rushed to the spot to defuse the tension and restore order.
Allegations Over Withholding Body and Outstanding Bills
According to the grieving family members, they had already cleared medical bills amounting to nearly 1.5 lakh rupees during the course of treatment. However, they alleged that the hospital administration was withholding the body on the grounds of an outstanding balance of approximately 52,000 rupees. This alleged refusal sparked intense anger among the relatives, leading to heated protests at the site. As of now, no official statement or explanation has been issued by the hospital management regarding these accusations.
Grave Allegations Raised in Police Complaint
The controversy took a more serious turn when the deceased youth's mother, Roshni Devi, submitted a formal complaint to the Superintendent of Police. In her statement, she shared that her family depends entirely on daily wage labor to make a living, and her 20-year-old son Mahavir also worked as a laborer. As per her account, a resident of Gajsinghpur named Raja Singh had called Mahavir for work at his farmstead. The family's formal complaint contains serious allegations claiming that Mahavir was subjected to physical assault during his time there.
Contradictory Claims and Ongoing Police Investigation
Meanwhile, counter-arguments have emerged suggesting that no such assault took place and that the young man's death occurred after he consumed some medication or a poisonous substance. Following the commotion, police personnel arrived at the scene, engaged with both sides, and gathered primary details. At present, law enforcement authorities are conducting a thorough inquiry into all aspects of the incident. Officials stated that the factual truth behind the allegations of withholding the body and the claims of assault will be fully uncovered only after the investigation concludes.
