A senior officer serving as Director in the Lok Sabha Secretariat was found hanging inside his apartment in a housing society in Noida, sending shock through the neighbourhood. Police recovered a 15-page note from the flat that makes reference to a loan. Announcing the case on Wednesday, police identified the deceased as Gaurav Gautam, who lived with his family at the Kendriya Vihar-II society in Sector 82. According to police, the 40-year-old officer was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his flat on Sunday.
Wife found the flat locked on returning from her parents' home
Police from the Phase-2 station said the case first came to light through a memo sent by a hospital, where Gautam had been taken for treatment. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead. Officers said Gautam's wife had gone to visit her parents at the time of the incident. When she returned home, she found the flat locked from inside, which raised her suspicion that something was wrong. She then sought help from a security guard at the society, and together they managed to get into the flat. Once inside, she found her husband hanging, and people nearby were alerted immediately.
Rushed to hospital, declared dead by doctors
Police said Gautam was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A police team subsequently reached the spot and began its investigation. During the search, officers recovered an alleged suicide note running to roughly 15 pages from the flat. According to police, the note refers to a loan, though its full contents are still being examined in detail.
Police scrutinising the note's contents
Police said every point recorded in the note is being carefully examined to establish why Gautam was under the pressure of such a large debt and what exactly led to it. Further legal proceedings in the case are underway. Police have not yet made public any further details about the nature or amount of the loan mentioned in the note.
