Severe Crash Near Ulladabari on NH-27
A devastating road accident on National Highway 27 (NH-27) in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal resulted in the deaths of six individuals on Sunday morning. According to reports received by TrendKia, a passenger bus crashed into a stationary truck parked on the side of the road near Ulladabari. The collision was highly intense, causing severe damage to the front of the bus and trapping several passengers inside. Local residents alongside police personnel initiated an emergency rescue operation to extricate the trapped victims from the mangled vehicle.
Victim Profiles and Injury Toll
The tragic crash occurred at approximately 11:30 AM when a North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) bus was travelling from Maynaguri in Paschim Bardhaman district towards Domohani. Among the six deceased are two women, an 18-month-old infant, and three men. The police have identified five of the deceased as Pampa Saha, a resident of Siliguri, her toddler son Bibek, Jamuna Roy from Maynaguri, Sajal Sarkar from Maynaguri, and Shubhankar Sil from Cooch Behar. The identity of one male victim remains unknown.
The accident also left 29 passengers injured, comprising 15 men, 12 women, and two children. One victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Maynaguri Rural Hospital. The remaining five victims succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Jalpaiguri Government Medical College and Hospital, where all the injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention.
Investigation Into the Cause of the Accident
Due to the impact of the crash, the front portion of the bus was severely crushed. Jalpaiguri SP Sujata Kumari Beena Pani stated that initial assessments point to adverse weather and slippery road surfaces as the primary factors behind the accident. A senior police official mentioned that a detailed investigation is being carried out to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the definitive cause of the crash.
CM Announces Compensation for Victims
Following the tragedy, CM Suvendu Adhikari took to the social media platform X to express his deep grief over the incident at Ulladabari Jorabad on NH-27. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and announced that the state government would cover all treatment expenses for those undergoing medical care.
Additionally, the CM announced financial compensation for the victims: Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased individual, Rs 1 lakh for those who suffered severe injuries, and Rs 50,000 for passengers with minor injuries.
