Chaos and panic gripped the Bandanwara toll plaza in the Bhinay area of Rajasthan's Ajmer district when unidentified occupants of an SUV opened unprovoked gunfire. The assailants drove up to the plaza and targeted the toll in-charge's cabin window, firing multiple rounds in quick succession. The sudden crackle of bullets sent staff and commuters scrambling for cover. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported among the booth personnel or travelers present at the scene.
Attackers Abandon SUV at the Scene Before Fleeing
Immediately following the burst of gunfire, the perpetrators abandoned their Scorpio right at the plaza and made a hasty escape on foot or through alternative means. Upon receiving emergency alerts, police units from three nearby stations, Bhinay, Sarwar, and Kekri, mobilized and arrived at the location. Law enforcement secured the crime scene, confiscated the abandoned vehicle, and initiated forensic and registration checks to trace its ownership and recent movements.
One Suspect Held as Senior Officials Oversee Inquiries
Police have taken one youth into custody in connection with the incident, and sustained interrogation is currently underway. Official confirmation regarding his precise involvement or presence in the vehicle during the shooting is still awaited from investigating authorities. Given the gravity of the armed attack on a public transit corridor, Ajmer SP Harsh Vardhan Agarwalla personally visited the spot to examine the premises and coordinate investigative priorities.

In response to the brazen getaway, district authorities established rigorous checkpoints across multiple crucial transit corridors, including routes across Kekri, Jawar Road, and Nagaur Road, alongside key Ajmer exit points. Forensic teams are reviewing CCTV footage captured by booth cameras and nearby highway infrastructure to ascertain the total number of individuals involved and identify their facial features. Investigators are focusing on determining whether the shooting stemmed from a refusal to pay user tolls or whether other motives were at play.
