He lauded the Uzbek President for orchestrating a welcome reminiscent of home and fondly recalled the elaborate dinner hosted the previous night.
The Prime Minister noted that President Mirziyoyev personally looked into every minor detail regarding the dinner arrangements. Alongside the delectable cuisine, the gathering featured delightful singing and traditional dance performances by talented children. Reflecting on this affectionate atmosphere, PM Modi remarked that it felt as though an entire piece of India had been recreated right there in Tashkent. He added that the grand gestures and the sight of the entire city adorned in the colors of the Indian tricolor touched his heart deeply and reawakened his Gujarati spirit.
Elevating Ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
During the delegation-level discussions, PM Modi highlighted several vital decisions aimed at steering India-Uzbekistan relations toward greater heights. He announced that both countries are elevating their bilateral ties to the status of a comprehensive strategic partnership. Under this upgraded framework, concrete targets will be established to guide future cooperation. Key areas of focus will include expanding trade, boosting investment, enhancing digital connectivity, strengthening defense ties, and securing energy cooperation.
Establishing a Coordination Council of Foreign Ministers
To further solidify institutional cooperation between the two nations, it has been decided to establish a coordination council at the level of foreign ministers. This council will oversee and review all aspects of bilateral collaboration while ensuring smooth harmonization across various sectors. Furthermore, the standing of the joint commission will be upgraded from the secretary level to the ministerial level to expedite decision-making and implementation.
Expanding Business Horizons and Urban Development
To give a major fillip to commercial exchanges, both countries are preparing to host a dedicated business summit that will bring together prominent industrialists and corporate leaders from India and Uzbekistan. Discussions also centered on creating a long-term supply framework for essential commodities. Additionally, three new sister city and sister state agreements were highlighted to foster grassroots cooperation, with the Prime Minister stressing the need for a clear roadmap to maximize their potential in trade, technology, and culture.
Showcasing GIFT City and Celebrating Yoga Ties
Drawing parallels with urban initiatives, PM Modi mentioned Uzbekistan's ongoing mega projects such as New Tashkent and pointed to India's GIFT City in Gujarat as a benchmark. He extended a welcoming invitation for an Uzbek delegation to visit India and study the advanced technologies and best practices utilized at GIFT City. During his itinerary, PM Modi also participated in a special yoga event, commending the efforts of the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan. He recalled Uzbekistan's active participation in the inaugural World Yogasana Championship held in Ahmedabad, acknowledging the medal winners present and celebrating the deep cultural bridge shared by the two nations.
